Fahd, Qatari foreign minister review bilateral relationship
DOHA HH Sayyid Fahd Bin Mahmoud Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, held talks with Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasim Bin Jaber Al Thani, Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Foreign Minister of Qatar, at the Emiri Diwan in Doha.

Also on Tuesday, Fahd and the delegation accompanying him visited the educational city in Doha.

At the outset of his talks, Fahd expressed his thanks and appreciation to Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Emir of Qatar; Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Crown Prince of Qatar; Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasim Bin Jaber and the Qatari government for the kind hospitality and warm welcome accorded to him and the delegation accompanying him.

Fahd also expressed the Sultanate’s appreciation for the development witnessed by Qatar under the leadership of Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, and remarkable progress made to achieve welfare and prosperity of the people of Qatar and wished all success to such efforts. In turn, Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasim Bin Jaber expressed his satisfaction over existing relations between the Sultanate and Qatar in
various spheres. He hoped that further progress to serve the interests of both countries and their people will be witnessed in the future.

During the talks, the two sides reviewed existing cooperation between the two countries in political, economic, social and educational fields, particularly in the field of gas, and relevant means to boost such cooperation and utilise expertise of both the sides.

The two sides agreed to intensify the joint committee meetings, lay down a well-studied action plan, draft programmes to promote bilateral cooperation. They also agreed to tap all joint investment resources and prepare studies. The two sides also reviewed regional and international developments of mutual concern.

The talks were attended from the Omani side by HE Yousuf Bin Alawi Bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs; HE Maqbool Bin Ali Bin Sultan, Minister of Commerce and Industry; HE Mohammed Bin Ali Bin Nassir Al Alawi, Minister of Legal Affairs; HE Dr Mohammed Bin Hamad Al Rumhi, Minister of Oil and Gas; HE Hamed Bin Mohammed Al Rashdi, Minister of Information; and HE Rashid Bin Mubarak Al Gheilani, the Sultanate’s Ambassador to Qatar.

A number of Qatari ministers attended the talks.

Later, Fahd said he was happy to visit Qatar. He said developing strong relations between the two countries was discussed during the talks.

Fahd also pointed to the numerous fields of cooperation between the Sultanate and Qatar which will be materialised in the future.

He affirmed that the Sultanate accords special attention to its relations with Qatar, which are emanating trust between the two countries. He said many issues were discussed during the talks, whose impact – God willing, will be felt soon. The two sides discussed ways to strengthen and develop their economies so as to achieve the aspirations of their people.

Fahd said: “We possess all means and capabilities which promote relations to serve the collective work in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states since bilateral relations constitute the foundation for the collective relations.”

He said: “We agreed on many issues with Qatar. Not in the economic field only, and how to develop it, but also in the scientific field.”

He said: “The visit to the Educational City on Tuesday is a pride for the countries of the region.”

Fahd said a number of the Sultanate’s citizens are studying in the international universities of the Educational City and the Qatari government has been seeking their assistance to develop the education march in Qatar. He said Sheikha Moza supported by the Qatari Emir supervises these universities and the Educational City.

Fahd also appreciated the efforts of Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jaber, which he said will allow the Sultanate an opportunity in the field of education along with Qatar to serve the interest of both the countries “God willing”.

Fahd again thanked and appreciated Sheikh Hamad Bin Kahlifa Al Thani, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasim Bin Jaber, Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiyah, Deputy Prime Minister, Energy and Industry Minister and Head of the Qatari side of the Omani–Qatari joint committee. He also thanked Qatari officials for their respect towards the Sultanate’s standing under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, and his good relationship with Qatari leadership and His Majesty’s keenness to make bilateral relationship between the two countries more strong.

Sheikh Hamad Bin Jaber Bin Jasim Al Thani said Fahd’s visit to Qatar proved deep-rooted relationship between the people of the two countries. He also talked about the attention accorded to Fahd’s visit by the Emir and the Crown Prince. He said this visit was a new step in relations between the two countries and the joint committee.

Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasim Bin Jaber said during the talks, the two sides discussed cooperation in field of energy, particularly in the field of gas. The two countries also set cooperation framework for the meeting of the committee.

He affirmed that His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said and Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani represent the main pillar of these relations. He added that the relations between the people of the two countries are friendly.

Therefore, such relations should be utilised for the future. He said Fahd agreed with his views on formulating a general framework for such cooperation, which they hope would materialise within few months.

Fahd was received on his arrival to the Educational City’s administration building by Dr Saif Bin Ali Al Hajri, Chairman of the Educational City board. The Educational City comprises four international universities and specialised institutes.

Fahd was briefed on the educational city and its facilities, stages of construction, various educational courses it offers from basic to higher education and advanced education courses.

Fahd was gifted “manuscripts from the Holy Quran in Arabic and English”, a commemorative gift by Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser Al Masnad, chairperson of the educational city board. He signed the VIP visitors’ book, expressing his delight to visit the Educational City.

He cited the remarkable achievement as a pioneering experience and pride for the countries in the region. “We congratulate the people of Qatar for this scientific edifice. We thank those who worked hard for this distinguished work, especially Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani and his wife Sheikha Moza.

Later in the day, the Qatari Crown Prince hosted a dinner banquet in honour of the visiting Omani delagation.
