Pause in downpour, life limping back to normal

MUSCAT Several parts of the Sultanate experienced light to heavy rain on Monday. Life in several parts of the Sultanate, which has been experiencing downpour for the past three days, has started to get back to normal.

Moderate to heavy rain lashed several areas, including Bausher, Al Ansab, Ghala, Athaiba, Al Seeb, Al Khoudh and Al Mabelah, Muttrah and Ruwi on Monday.

In Al Buraimi governorate, heavy rainfall recorded in the Wilayat of Mahdha, Al Roudhah, Al Khuhl, Al Sharm, Al Khadhrah, Al Buraimi and Masidra Al Gauff which led to the overflow of wadis.

In Batinah region, heavy rain lashed Sohar. Al Dhahirah and Ibri experienced moderate rain. In the Wilayat of Shinas heavy rain fell in Milaha, Tameet and Wajaja.

According to the Meteorological Department, rain will continue with occasional thundershowers over the governorate of Muscat, Al Sharqiyah region and Al Hajar mountains and adjoining areas. However, it was a mainly clear sky over the rest of the Sultanate.

In Muscat city, people are still trying to cope with the water-logging in some residential and commercial areas. People living in some areas of Al Ghubra are keeping their children indoors due to water-logging in their areas.

Weather conditions will remain stable in the governorates of Musandam, Al Buraimi and northern parts of Al Batinah on Tuesday.

The Meteorological Department said that the sky would be partly cloudy with chances of rain.

Over the coastal areas of Oman, according to the Meteorological Department, sea winds will be light to moderate on east to north-easternly direction. Fresh downdraft winds are expected during thundershowers, the Meteorological Department said.
