Khareef Salalah Festival kicks off today
MUSCAT Amid magnificent symphony of creativity and nature’s wonderful colours, Khareef Salalah Festival 2008 starts on Saturday.

The Governorate of Dhofar on Saturday will receive a large number of Khareef Salalah visitors from different places of Sultanate and GCC countries. The festival had recorded 364,128 tourists last year.

The authorities concerned have completed preparations to make the festival a grand success. They have arranged all kinds of services and facilities to Salalah visitors and these facilities include world-class hotels, apartments and different transportation facilities. Special arrangements have been made, keeping in view the increased number of Salalah visitors during the Autumn Festival.

The festival includes various entertainment items, including exhibitions and different cultural, economic, art activities in addition to shopping.

Dhofar Governorate is famous for unique tourism sites; natural environment, white beaches, soft sands, chain of mountains, streams, water eyes, caves, and rich soil suitable to grow different kinds of vegetables and fruits.

Moreover, the archaeological places and tourism sites like Al Bilaida Park, which is included in the world heritage list, Frankincense land museum and Atin heights attract the governorate visitors.

On the other hand, the Ministry of National Economy, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Royal Oman Police, will, start on Saturday,  its annual Survey for Khareef Slalah visitors for year 2008. The survey will be closed by the end of the festival on September 21.

HE Sheikh Al Fadl Bin Mohamed Bin Ahmed Al Harthi, Undersecretary at the Ministry of National Economy for Development Affairs, said the survey which gives the exact information to build a comprehensive database, contributes in making the elaborate plans and periodical evaluation for the tourism sector’s performance.

“This year’s survey aims at assessing the tourism size during the season of Khareef Salalah and studying the demographic characteristics of the visitors as well as estimating the total expenses of visitors. It also aims at studying the general impression of tourists,” AL Harthi added.

He also said that the second part of the survey project is aimed at meeting Khareef Salalah visitors before their departure from Hireet centre or Salalah airport.
