Workshop on groundwater modelling opens
MUSCAT The Technical Workshop on Underground Water Modelling opened at the Human Resources Development Centre in the Regional Municipalities and Water Resources Ministry. The workshop, which is part of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) project to boost availability of water, was opened under the patronage of HE Eng. Ali Bin Mohammed Al Abri, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Water Resources Affairs.

The workshop aims to enhance skills of hydrologists and will enable the Sultanate to evaluate water resources through various techniques, said Dr Khalid Bin Salim Al Meshaikhi, Head of Dams Department at the Water Resources Administration in the Governorate of Dhofar.  

Yaan Zu spoke on behalf of the Institute for Water Education of the Unesco.  

The ministry is keen to involve international governmental and non-governmental organisations in water resources assessment and management in the Sultanate, in cooperation with the IAEA and the Peaceful Nuclear Technology Office at the Foreign Ministry, and with participation of Sultan Qaboos University, Petroleum Development Oman and The Research Council.
