| Fire breaks out at factory in Rusayl industrial area |
MUSCAT A fire broke out at Oman Fibre Optic (OFO) Company production plant in Rusayl industrial area in Muscat on Friday morning, according to a press release from the company.
There were no casualties or injuries in the blaze which broke out at 8:45am, according to a media statement from OFO Company CEO Eng. Mohammed Harith Al Brashdi.
The police operations centre received information about the fire around 9am, a Royal Oman Police (ROP) source said. All units of Civil Defence in Muscat governorate provided helicopters of the Police Aviation Directorate in collaboration with the Royal Army of Oman. Strongs winds and chemicals at the blaze site made firefighting difficult.
“Production facilities and assets which were damaged are insured. While production capacity has been affected, the company is working with its strategic partners to provide alternative supplies to customers,” Brashdi said.
“The incident has only affected the fibre optic production line and other business streams will continue to function normally from its existing offices in Al Khuwair.”
OFO thanked the ROP for containing the fire and minimising losses, and the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates for timely support.
