MUSCAT The Indian Social Club (ISC) Muscat held an Eid Milan (get-together) programme at Indian School Muscat on Sunday.
HE JS Mukul, Indian Ambassador to the Sultanate, was the chief guest. The event was attended by people of the Indian community and prominent expatriates.
Yusuf Nalwala, joint managing director of Al Ansari group, said Eid symbolised the true teachings of Islam. He said that Islam preached peace and love among all human beings. He said the image of Islam portrayed by the media was wrong and has caused major disservice to humanity.
He said that after fasting during the Holy Month of Ramadan, people mark Eid to thank Almighty Allah for his bounties for the humanity. Eid gives the message of peace and happiness which is why people come together to celebrate it, he said.
Satish Nambiar, chairman of the ISC, said Eid was a special moment to get together to celebrate the festival of peace and happiness. He said that the ISC has been organising the event for many years.
Mukul expressed his pleasure in attending Eid Milan and greeted Muslims on the occasion.
Babu Rajendran, general secretary of ISC, said the club was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm shown by the people of the Indian community towards the event.
