| Moon sighting panel to meet today |

MUSCAT The Sultanate’s moon sighting committee will hold its meeting on Saturday at the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs. It will be chaired by HE Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Al Salmi, Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs.
The committee includes His Eminence Sheikh Ahmed Bin Hamad Al Khalili, the Sultanate’s Grand Mufti, HE Sayyid Harib Bin Saud Al Busaidi, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, HE Eng. Khalid Bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior, HE Sheikh Dr Abdullah Bin Rashid Al Siyabi, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court, and HE Sheikh Ahmed Bin Mohamed Al Khatib, judge of the Supreme Court in Salalah.
The committee will receive citizens’ queries on moon sighting through its subcommittees in the wilayats. The committee will be in touch with the other field committees.
Eng. Ammar Bin Salem Bin Ali Al Rawahi, astronomer in the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, said moon sighting will be possible in Muscat governorate on Saturday through telescopes or with the naked eye if the skies are clear.
He said the moon will set 18 minutes after sunset. So moon sighting will be possible but difficult in Muscat governorate and the northern parts of the Sultanate. It will be easier in the southern parts of the country.
