The Kerala government has announced it will collect user fee from fishing boats from neighbouring states for fishing in waters close to its coast.
According to a government order, issued by the state fishing and ports department, all fishing boats from neighbouring states (and that means Tamil Nadu too) engaged in fishing in Kerala coast should pay Rs15,000 as user fee to the state government every three months.
This is supposed to be the first time that any state has introduced such a user fee system for boats from other states.
