| India air passenger traffic falls 11% in July |
NEW DELHI India’s domestic air passenger traffic fell 11.17 per cent for the third straight month in July, which stood at 4.53 million from 5.10 million travellers in June, official data showed on Friday.
The trend started in May during which passenger traffic came down by 0.87 per cent and stood at 5.44 million from 5.49 million carried in the corresponding month of 2011. June recorded a substantial fall of 3.84 per cent at 5.10 million from 5.31 million in the like month of 2011.
The data released by the civil aviation ministry, however, showed the total passengers carried by all the domestic airlines in the January-July period grew by a marginal 1.74 per cent at 35.45 million passengers from 34.84 million during the corresponding month of 2011.
“Number of passengers carried by them (domestic airlines) were 35.45 million between January and July 2012 as against 34.84 million during the corresponding period of the previous year showing the passenger traffic growth of 1.74 per cent,” the data showed.
On a standalone basis, IndiGo had the largest market share of 27 per cent, followed by Jet Airways, 19.4 per cent, Air-India, 18.2 per cent, SpiceJet, 17.8 per cent, JetLite, 7.2 per cent, GoAir, 7 per cent, and Kingfisher Airlines, 3.4 per cent.
