| State eyes takeover of granite quarrying |
The state government has plans to take over the granite quarrying operations in the state.
Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has chaired a review meeting to deliberate suggestions on the government control over granite quarrying on the lines of its takeover of sand mining.
Earlier this week, former Madurai collector U Sagayam alleged that illegal quarrying in the district had caused a loss of more than Rs160 billion to the state exchequer. A crackdown was ordered immediately and resulted in raids and sealing of many illegal quarrying units.
Cases were registered against owners of granite firms, including DMK leader and federal fertiliser Minister MK Alagiri’s son Durai Dayanidhi and his partner, for alleged illegal quarrying.
Suriya is highest paid star
Rumour is that Suriya is now the highest paid star in Kollywood and that he is getting paid Rs150 million as salary and Rs150 million for the Telugu rights. The reason for this is that the actor has a growing fan base in Andhra. Already, for Maattrraan, he was paid Rs120 million plus the Telugu rights, which were said to be around Rs150 million.
