| Thackeray slams Advani’s prediction |
MUMBAI/NEW DELHI LK Advani’s prediction of a non-Congress, non-National Democratic Alliance (NDA) alliance coming to power after 2014 elections generated more heat with Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray slamming the BJP leader while differences within key ally Janata Dal (U) on the issue also came to the fore.
Thackeray asserted that Advani’s musings on the outcome of the 2014 elections in his latest blog was “demoralising” for the opposition NDA and likened the assessment to an army general saying before a war that there is no guarantee on the outcome.
“This is like a general saying before a war that there is no guarantee on the outcome, and demoralising the entire army,” Thackeray said in an editorial in Saamna. “If Advani has any doubts, he can come to me and I will give him a dose of morale and strength,” Thackeray said.
Advani’s prediction saw difference surface in the JD (U) with its MP Shivanand Tiwari, who is known to be close to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, backing him, saying he “understands the pulse of the country’s politics”. Tiwari’s comments came a day after JD (U) chief and NDA convenor Sharad Yadav voiced his “complete disagreement” with the prediction.
