| Sa’eedi to attend health summit in UK |
MUSCAT HE Dr Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Sa’eedi, Health Minister, left for London to attend the Global Health Policy Summit which begins on Wednesday and the Life Sciences and Healthcare Venture Summit to be held on Thursday. It is in response to an invitation extended by the UK government.
The two events will discuss health and healthcare issues. Al Sa’eedi will be one of three experts who will talk on non-communicable diseases and efforts made in this regard as part of activities of the Global Health Policy Summit.
Al Sa’eedi in a statement stressed the importance of taking in the two events. He said the Global Health Policy Summit will discuss the issue of non-communicable diseases. The Sultanate attaches importance to the issue of non-communicable diseases because of its rapid growth around the world in general and GCC countries in particular, he said.
The Sultanate had earlier participated at the world summit on non-communicable diseases held in New York. Sa’eedi said the Supreme Council of GCC had at the 32nd session in Riyadh last year approved the Gulf plan 2011-2020 to control non-communicable diseases.
GCC countries had signed the Muscat Declaration on non-communicable diseases at the 72nd conference of GCC Health Ministers in its 37th round hosted by the Sultanate in January.
