| Ministry completes preparations for Ramadan |
MUSCAT The Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources (MRMWR) has completed all preparations for the Holy Month of Ramadan. MRMWR has made intensive preparations as part of its efforts to ensure that standards of hygiene are met during Ramadan.
Forty-four municipalities across the Sultanate have been put on the alert and are keeping a vigil on shops and markets, which are generally crowded with shoppers at this time of the year.
Teams from the ministry will carry out inspections to check if municipality standards of health and hygiene are being met throughout the day, with employees working in shifts. MRMWR as part of its efforts to maintain hygiene during the holy month has intensified monitoring of shops and other establishments, which are selling consumer goods and eatables.
MRMWR has already prepared an integrated action plan to monitor the developments. The inspection teams of the ministry will visit different areas to ensure the compliance of the norms. The follow-up teams will also ensure the health and safety norms are not violated.
In the area of public health, several teams have been formed for field inspections. Markets and shops will be under the scanner of these teams. Samples of food products will be collected and sent for testing in food laboratories and water to ensure their quality. Nine laboratories will be operational in different regions of the Sultanate for this purpose.
MRMWR has established a follow-up plan to monitor the slaughterhouses during the holy month. Regional municipalities will supervise the functions of slaughterhouses, which are expected to witness a huge turn out of citizens with animals for sacrifice.
It will be ensured that all slaughterhouses function with adequate number of technicians, doctors and other employees to ensure safety and hygiene. A number of teams will conduct field inspections to follow up the butcher shops and meat markets in coordination with respective regional municipalities to ensure that the process of storage, preparation and handling of meat are in compliance with the rules.
