THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Dileep was so elated to hear that he has won the maiden state film award when the much belated Kerala State Film Awards 2011 announcement came on Thursday amidst speculations that the best actor award would go to Mohanlal for his performance in Blessy’s Pranayam.
Minister for Arts and Culture and Forest KB Ganesh Kumar announced the awards in the presence of jury chairman and Tamil actor-director Bagyaraj here.
Talking to Oman Tribune, Dileep said that he never expected this honour this time. “I had expectation for such a honour for my performance in Kunjikoonan and Chandupottu. But this is something unbelievable to me. I always try to give maximum perfection to my roles. I am so elated and can’t explain beyond this,” he said. Dileep bagged his maiden state award for his superb performance in Vellaripravinte Changathy while eminent Malayalam film director Fazil’s son, Fahad Fazil, is the second best actor.
Bagyaraj said Fahad has won the award for his sterling performance in Akam and Chappakurissu and he is going to be one of the best new generation heroes on the silver screen.
Swetha Menon was adjudged the best actress for her different role of a middle-aged spinster seeking a male companion in Salt N’ Pepper. Indian Rupee directed by Renjith won the best movie award while Blessy, who directed Mohanlal-Anupam Kher and Jaya Prada-starrer Pranayam is the best director. Salt‘N Pepper directed by Ashik Abu is the best popular film and Ivan Megharoopan, a scintillating film version by P Balachandran on legendry Malayalam poet P Kunhiraman Nair is the second best film.
Shery, director of Adimadhyandam, a film which was ejected out of the last International Film Festival of Kerala following a controversy over the date of submission of the edited copies of the film, can have some sort of solace as he has been adjudged the best debutant director.
Nilamboor Ayisha (Oomakkuyil Padumbol) is the best supporting actress while Jagathy Sreekumar, who is recuperating at a hospital in Vellore following a road accident, was adjudged as the best comedian for his role in Swpana Sanchary.
Announcing the awards, Ganesh Kumar said there were 41 films in the competition of which six were short films and one was documentary.
