From a baking unit, the convict prison in Puzhal jail is on its way to becoming an ‘ashram’. The officials now plan to compartmentalise the jail into different blocks housing inmates with specific skill sets. The jail will soon have a spiritual block, actors’ block, literary block and painters block. The Tamil Nadu prisons will soon start a prison bazaar too (of which the bakery is a part) to convert the prisons into revenue-generating factories.
Electricity load less in TN
Thanks to the light drizzle in the city, the total consumption of electricity has dropped by around 500MW since July 1. According to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, the total consumption of energy, which was around 2,450MW per hour in June, has now dropped to around 2,000MW per hour. Around 500,000 people in the city, including some areas that fall under Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts, consume more than 500 units bi-monthly.
At present, the state’s total electricity demand is around 12,000MW per hour and the generation 8,000MW per hour.
Amy dubs for herself
British-born, Kollywood debutante Amy Jackson has decided that after one movie in Tamil and another in Hindi it is time she dubs for herself. She has dubbed in Tamil for her own part in
the Vikram starrer Thaandavam. Directed by AL Vijay, the film is expected to hit the screens in
September. Thaandavam stars Vikram, Anushka, Amy Jackson, Santhanam, Jagapathy Babu, Nassar and Lakshmi Rai.
