| 4 get jail terms for slander, violating IT regulations |
MUSCAT The Muscat Primary Court on Monday pronounced the judgments on the cases of abusive and inflammatory writings against four defendants who were convicted for slander and violating the Information Technology (IT) Law. The court sentenced Hamoud Bin Saud Bin Himdan Al Rashdi, who works as a teacher at the Ministry of Education, to six months in jail and a fine for slander.
The court also issued judgments sentencing Ali Bin Hilal Bin Ali Al Miqbali (born in the Wilayat of Sohar in 1989 and works in Jindal Shadeed Company) to one year imprisonment for offences for violating the IT Law, Hamad Bin Abdullah Bin Bin Mubarak Al Kharousi (born in the Wilayat of Al Suweiq in 1976 and works as a mechanic trainer at the Ministry of Manpower) to one year imprisonment and a fine of 200 rials for offences violating the IT Law, Mahmoud Bin Hamad Bin Thani Al Rowahi (born in the Wilayat of Sumail in 1977 and works as a teacher at the Ministry of Education) to six months imprisonment and a fine of 200 rials for offences violating the IT Law.
The sentencing on other 6 defendants was delayed to July 16, 2012, while the sentencing on a number of defendants to illegal assembly will be next Wednesday.
