Child murder rate soars

The latest figures from the national crime records bureau show that the state ranks third in the number of children (up to 10 years) found murdered. Maharashtra tops this list with 141 victims, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 96 and Tamil Nadu with 90 child victims. Many cases involve kidnapping for ransom, other numbers are made up by extramarital affairs. As per the 2011 statistics, 136 murder cases in Tamil Nadu had victims below 18 years of age.

Jaya spies on councillors

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa is using the state intelligence to keep tabs on Corporation of Chennai and has warned that she will dismiss anyone found guilty of malpractice early next month. On June 19, Jayalalithaa had summoned all her councillors from Chennai, read out charges against individual members and warned them that she would not hesitate to disband the civic body.

MK upset with CPM leader

DMK president M Karunanidhi has lashed out at CPM state unit secretary G Ramakrishnan saying he was trying to suck up to the ruling AIADMK while targeting the DMK.
