MUSCAT Al Kawther Hypermarket, a one-stop shop providing consumers everything under one roof, was opened under the auspices of HE Sheikh Khalid Bin Sultan Bin Saif Al Hosni, Deputy Chairman of State Council, in Barka on Monday.
“This is our fifth hypermarket in the Sultanate. This outlet will benefit the residents of Barka and surrounding areas as our focus is on providing quality goods at the best price,” S Sreekumaran Nair, managing director of Al Kawther Group, said while addressing the media.
The hypermarket consists of two floors of shopping area totaling around 10,000 square metres with dedicated floors for readymade garments, electronics, household items, footwear besides food stuff and a supermarket section offering products including fresh vegetables, meat, fish and many more. The hypermarket has 10,000 square metres of parking space, which can accommodate around 600 cars, he said.
“We believe in reaching out to customers and providing them with a wide-choice of products. All our products are sourced from India, the UAE and also locally. We have an extensive section for Omani products. The hypermarket has both branded and non branded items. It’s the pricing and the quality that sets us apart from the rest,” he said.
“Around 500 Omanis and 350 expatriates are employed in the Group. The Barka outlet employs around 150 staff in various sections,” Nair said. The hypermarket also houses a money exchange counter, which will be opened soon, he said.
On the expansion plans, he said Al Kawther Group has planned to open outlets in Sinaw and Suwaiq by the end of the year and Ibri in 2013. The Sinaw outlet will be set up on 15,000 square metres of shopping area. “The group, which commenced operations a decade ago, currently has five outlets in the Sultanate. Our focus has been interior regions since inception,” Nair said.
“A promotion has been launched as part of the opening of the hypermarket in Barka. Customers will be entitled for a coupon for every purchase of 3 rials. The prizes include Toyota Corollas, LCDs and washing machines,” he said.
