| Leather products expo opens |
MUSCAT A Leather Products Exhibition began on Monday under the patronage of HE Ahmed Bin Suleiman Al Maimani, Undersecretary at the Commerce and Industry Ministry for Administrative and Financial and Estates Affairs.
Twenty-eight national and world companies specialised in leather products take part in the three-day event, which is the first of its kind in the Sultanate.
Al Maimani said the exhibition will contribute to developing leather products industry in the Sultanate and will be an ideal opportunity for Omani companies in the field of importing leather products, especially wholesale traders.
The value of the Sultanate’s imports of leather products during 2010 amounted to more than 10.7 million rials compared to 9.9 million in 2011. The value of the raw leather imports amounted to 471,000 rials in 2011 compared to 500,000 in 2011. The value of natural and synthetic fur was humble at only 8,000 rials in 2011 compared to 9,000 in 2010.
Al Maimani said the total value amounted to 11.3 million rials in 2010 when compared to 10.4 million in previous year.
Basem Bin Said Al Khusaibi, Director-General of Arabia Expo, the organising company, said companies from the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey and local companies take part at the three-day expo.
