| Mohammed Al Busaidi inaugurates documents expo at Salalah festival |
SALALAH HE Sayyid Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Busaidi, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar, inaugurated a documentary exhibition themed ‘The Document: History of Homeland and Culture of a Nation,’ on Monday.
Their Excellencies undersecretaries, members of the State and Shura councils, and sheikhs, attended the ceremony. The exhibition will be held till July 16 at Oman Hall in the Municipality Recreational Centre.
The exhibition organised by the National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA)is part of activities of Salalah Tourism Festival 2012. It is being hosted following good turnout in the first edition of the exhibition themed ‘The National Memory in the Frankincense Land,’ held in 2011.
The exhibition includes important achievements of the Blessed Renaissance and a section explaining international relations between the Sultanate and other countries.
It includes a documentation section in which a set of documents owned by citizens and families in the Sultanate are on display. This is the nucleus of the collection and registration of documents from the citizens.
The exhibition includes Department of East Africa, which tells the Omani and foreign relations in political, economical, social, and cultural intermingling between the State of Muscat and Zanzibar and the lives of Omanis in that period.
The exhibition contains a section on stamps, coins, and old maps to determine the maritime routes between the Sultanate, the Indian Ocean, East Africa and Asian regions.
There is a special section for documents and achievements of National Records and Archives Authority and the building management system with government documents.
It also features many documents and rare historic photographs dealing with extended periods showcasing the legacy of civilisation and cultural memory of the Sultanate.
The Wilayat of Rakhyut took part in wilayat’s competition. The dance group from the wilayat presented popular folk dances like Haboot, Yolah, Zamil, Nana, Dabrarat, and Dan Don and Al Mahawir. It also participated in various traditional games.
The wilayat displayed several programmes highlighting its rich heritage, handicrafts, traditional songs, customs and traditional industries. They also manufacture goods from leather and palm fronds.
