| Mani surrenders before probe team |
KA Antony
KOCHI The surrender of MM Mani, former Idukki district secretary of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM), over his disclosure about the annihilation theory practised by him and his party in the past was quite dramatic as he reached the office of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) at Thodupuzha just four minutes before the allowed time on Wednesday.
The day chosen by Mani who had shied away from appearing before the SIT happened to be one chosen by United Progressive Alliance presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee to vist Kerala to seek support for him. He is going to be supported by CPM legislators.
Mani, escorted by CPM leaders from Idukki, arrived at 9.46am in a car and the probe team was waiting for him.
The entire episode appeared nothing short than a mockery as Mani was found enjoying his surrender and the interrogation that followed.
After the interrogation, Inspector-General of Police K Padmakumar told reporters that the probe team has collected enough information from Mani.
However, Mani said that the probe team was very cooperative.
