Salalah expo highlights hazards of fake goods
SALALAH An exhibition to create awareness about counterfeit products opened at the Municipality Recreation Centre on Tuesday.

The expo, held as part of the Salalah Tourism Festival, will create awareness about fake products, its impact on the economy and its health hazards. Consumer products manufacturers and automobile firms are taking part in the exhibition.

The expo was opened under the patronage of HE Sheikh Salim Bin Aufait Al Shanfari, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality and Chairman of Salalah Tourism Festival 2012 organising committee, in the presence of HE Sheikh Said Bin Khamis Al Ka’abi, Chairman of the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP).

The PACP has been taking steps to check sale of fake products and create awareness among consumers, in collaboration with companies.  Automobile firms have displayed genuine products alongside fake ones at their showrooms to help customers see the difference and desist from buying fake products.

The Omani children’s forum, titled ‘Oman: Safe Childhood and Promising Future’ held as part of the Salalah festival, concluded at the Municipality Recreation Centre in Yitin on Wednesday.

The closing ceremony was held under the auspices of Her Excellency Dr Madiha Bint Ahmed Al Shibaniyah, Minister of Education, in the presence of HE Sayyid Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Busaidi, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar, HE Sheikh Salim Bin Aufait Al Shanfari, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality and Chairman of Salalah Tourism Festival 2012 organising committee, and officials from Dhofar governorate.

The forum, part of the Salalah Tourism Festival, was held in cooperation with the Ministry of Education represented by Dhofar Directorate, as a reflection of the interest of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said.

On show at the forum were works by students, innovators, and entrepreneurs, besides scientific innovations, arts and hobbies from all governorates. Over 400 people took part in the closing ceremony.

Meanwhile, the seventh GCC Forum for the Blind, which concluded in Salalah on Wednesday, highlighted the importance of developing scientific research on assistive technology for integration of disabled people, especially the visually-challenged.

The participants also stressed the need for social legislations to ensure care, rehabilitation and employment of the visually-challenged in GCC countries.

The concluding ceremony at Crowne Plaza Salalah was held under the patronage of Badr Bin Ali Al Rowas, Head of Dhofar Club, in the presence of national soccer team players Ali Al Habsi and Hussain Al Hadhri.

The forum, held as part of the Salalah festival, stressed the need to provide job opportunities that suit the qualifications and capabilities of people with vision impairment, besides organising academic workshops for teachers specialised in teaching the visually-challenged.

It highlighted the importance of setting up a GCC permanent technical committee of experts at associations for the blind to study technical and technological aspects of matters related to the visually-impaired, besides projects aimed at helping them.

The chief guest distributed appreciation certificates to participants and organising committees.

The forum included lectures and workshops for developing and learning from the experiences of associations and participants. It also included religious lectures, recreational and cultural competitions, poetry nights and visit to tourist landmarks in the Governorate of Dhofar.
