SALALAH The National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA) will organise the second documents exhibition entitled ‘The Document: History of Homeland and Culture of a Nation’ on July 9, under the patronage of HE Sayyid Mohamed Bin Sultan Al Busaidi, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar.
The eight-day expo, to be held at the Oman Hall in the Municipality Recreational Centre in Salalah, is part of Salalah Tourism Festival activities.
The expo will highlight the cultural and historical role of the Sultanate, said Dr Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Dhoyani, NRAA Chairman. The first version of the expo, entitled ‘The National Memory in the Frankincense Land’ and held in 2011, saw huge turnout.
The expo aims to acquaint the community, researchers, scholars, interested people, citizens and visitors with the rich history of the Sultanate and its relations with other countries, he said.
The expo will display documents belonging to citizens, documents related to Omani relations with East Africa in political, economic, social spheres, and the cultural interchange between the two parts of the state in Oman and Zanzibar, and life of Omanis during that period.
The exhibition will showcase Oman’s ties with other states, besides stamps, coins and old maps of marine routes linking Oman, the Indian Ocean, Eastern Africa and Asian regions. There will also be rare historical documents and images belonging to historical periods.
NRAA achievements and document management system at governmental departments will also be on show.
The expo aims to open new horizons for historians, researchers, scholars and those interested in history, Al Dhoyani said.
