| Coconut pluckers in great demand |

The coconut growers in the Cauvery delta regions of Thanjavur, Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam are faced with an acute shortage of skilled labour. With few tree climbers available to pluck coconuts, the farmers are facing huge losses. Farmers cite two reasons for the diminishing labour force. First, the perception that palm climbing is a demeaning occupation, and second, industrialisation. This means that from a tree that yields 70 to 100 coconuts a year, the farmers are getting only 50 – just the coconuts that are within sickle’s reach.
‘Kochadaiyaan’ storyline ‘leaked’
Even though everyone involved in the film has signed a non-disclosure agreement and despite the fact that the entire unit has been trying to keep the storyline of superstar Rajnikanth’s magnum opus Kochadaiyaan a secret, it looks like there has been a leak. We hear in his daughter director Soundarya Ashwin’s film, Rajni plays two roles of a king and a prince, who are father and son respectively. Jackie Shroff and Nasser will also be seen as rival kings. The film apparently cuts across two generations.
The latest rumour is that Rajni may have a role in Bollywood film Dhoom 3. It stars Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, Uday Chopra and Jackie Shroff. Word is that Aamir Khan — who plays a villain in the film — and producers Yash Raj Films, had approached Rajnikanth for a cameo role in Dhoom 3.
