| Focus on tourism for sustainable future |
RIO DE JANEIRO The Sultanate took part in Tourism for a Sustainable Future forum, organised by the World Tourism Organisation, and held on the sidelines of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development.
It discussed topics on local communities and involving them directly in developing the tourism sector and providing job opportunities. It also emphasised the importance of tourism based on quality rather than quantity and work to preserve natural tourism products and cultural remains for future generations.
The forum reviewed some successful experiences in the field of development and sustainable programmes that they have carried out in order to preserve successful tourism development, and these experiences and the experience of Mexico, Thailand, Brazil, and Madagascar.
