Gilani defiant despite ouster, vows to stay active in politics
ISLAMABAD The exit of Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has exposed the Arsalan Iftikhar scandal and issue of writing of letter to the Swiss authorities for emerging on the central stage of the political horizon once again.

Gilani who has accepted sacrifice of his office with grace would continue to play active political role in the national politics. He has decided to maintain his silence for the time being and in the meanwhile he would draw up his political strategy before coming in public about his position on the developments of June 9.

Gilani will challenge the verdict of June 9 through review petition in the Supreme Court as he will have further consultations with his legal aides Thursday.

In off-the-record conversation Gilani appeared confident about his future course of action and at the same time he was willing to debate the role he had played as the chief executive of the country.

Gilani is interested to be remembered for his loyalty with the constitution and party and his services for the country in the most difficult and complex period of its history. ‘The south Punjab and Saraikis can now say with their heads held high that they also have a person in their ranks who opted to offer his head but refused to deceive his mats and people. ’The former prime minister had to pay heavily on account of knee-jerk reaction about a call and conversation by his son that he never made but responded on a miss call during a TV programme.

In fact, Gilani always opposed to the tactics of mudslinging since he spoke for the institutions and especially they were established and strengthened by him.

A few days back he narrated the episode of Athenian Philosopher Socrates during a chat. He said that when the jury sentenced Socrates death penalty, he took up the bowl of poison in his hands and looked at the jury members with contempt that they deserved and said with contemptuous smile mind it that you would be consigned to the dustbin of the history but ‘I will be remembered for my cause.’ Gilani said the words of Socrates proved to be correct as centuries have lapsed, his name and deeds are remembered but who knows the jury and its members.

Gilani has planned to stay in the federal capital for few days before moving to Lahore/Multan. He doesn’t have huge belongings with him in the PM House as he could easily shift to some secure place. He has been offered to stay in the Presidency as an honoured guest but it is unlikely that he would become source of burden for anyone.

He has planned to write another book. He is reluctant to offer comments about the verdict of the court but said repeatedly that some judgments are adjudged by the history because the best judge is the history and the people. He is indebted the members of the parliament who always afforded their cooperation to him and posed trust in him.

Gilani would be later staying in Multan but he would make Lahore as base for his future politics, said sources close to him.

The Prime Minister House wore a deserted look after the news of the verdict broke. The junior staff of the House talked high of the manner of the outgoing prime minister who never shouted at anyone in the house and he was never seen in rage.
