Anna University seeks new vice-chancellor
By Our Correspondent

The Anna University is seeking a new vice-chancellor (VC) as the present VC P Mannar Jawahar is on his way out in another fortnight. The university is in a state of transition with the government deciding to merge the five Anna Universities of Technology with the premier institution. The state government is yet to notify the date from which the unified Anna University would come into existence. As a result, the authorities are not in a position to constitute a search committee to shortlist three vice-chancellor candidates. Academics though are worried and say that the government must ensure that the university gets a full time VC at the earliest as there will soon be over 500 affiliated engineering colleges under its fold.

Ajith’s ‘Billa 2’ in censorship dilemma

Rumour has it that while actor Ajith’s Billa 2 has been certified ‘A’ by the censor board, with a few minor cuts, the producers of the film are working out a way to get a U/A certification. The censor board
has supposedly asked them to make 40 more cuts to get a U/A.

Vijay out, Jiiva likely for Seeman’s film

Actor Vijay, who earlier had signed up for director Seeman’s Pagalavan, has changed his mind. The film is apparently about the problems faced by people in today’s society and now that Vijay has opted out, he is busy checking up with actor Jiiva for the lead role in the film. Seeman apparently wrote the script when he was in the Vellore prison.

Nayantara roped in for ‘Kadal’

In news related to director Mani Ratnam’s Kadal, we hear there has been another casting coup. The director has apparently brought Nayantara in too. Though the details of her character are still not known, she will be playing an important part in the film. Earlier, there were reports that she was offered a role in Raavanan too, but her busy schedule didn’t allow her to accept. This time around, after her break-up with Prabhu Deva, her roles are more important than ever, so we’re guessing Nayantara will accept it.
