MUSCAT The Wilayat of Bausher is one of six wilayats in Muscat governorate. Located in the heart of Muscat, it has an excellent geographical location. It lies between mountain and plain, valley and sea, and is frequented by a large number of tourists all round the year.
The wilayat witnessed the victory of the Omanis over the army of Al Hajaj Bin Yousef Al Thaqafi. It is also the place where the Portuguese era in Oman and Gulf area came to a close.
The administrative borders of the Wilayat of Bausher begin from Qurum roundabout in the east to Muscat International Airport in the west.
The wilayat overlooks the Sea of Oman to the north and the southern border in Al Misfah (west) extends to Fanja village.
The wilayat has a population of 192,235, according to 2010 census.
The wilayat is blessed with many tourist attractions, including aflaj, Bait Al Maqham and water springs in the villages of Ghala, Al Hamam, Sad, Ansab, and Al Mesfatain. It has more than 48 aflaj and hot water springs, which are destinations for tourists who come there for therapies.
The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the biggest mosque in the Sultanate, is also located in Bausher.
The government has implemented road projects such as the Muscat Expressway to connect the wilayat with other areas and mitigate traffic congestion on the Bausher-Amerat road.
