| ‘Harvest of 40 Years’ events begin in Sohar |
SOHAR A celebration was held in the Wilayat of Sohar under the auspices of HE Sheikh Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Isa’ee, Chairman of the Shura Council, to launch the events of ‘Harvest of 40 years’, on Saturday.
Said Bin Humaid Al Harthy, Deputy Wali of Sohar and Chairman of the Organising Committee, said the events, which will continue for 40 hours are divided into five days from Saturday.
He said that a number of events would be held at the cultural village to symbolise the life of Omanis during the last 40 years till the stage they have reached now under the blessed era.
The launch included a number of programmes like patriotic songs, traditional Omani arts, in addition to a programme by Sohar Development Office under the theme ‘March and Achievement’.
Later, the chief guest opened the exhibition held on the sidelines of the events, which showcased the achievements made by the directorates and departments during the blessed Renaissance. The chief guest and the guests reviewed different services provided by these departments, as well as their achievements.
Isa’ee said: “July 23 is one of the immortal days of Oman as it marks the day when Oman started its journey towards progress, knowledge, science, dignity, prosperity and pride.”
“During these 40 years only, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said managed to place Oman well among the developed countries,” he added. The ceremony was attended by a number of Shura Council members, walis of the northern Al Batinah region, directors-general, local officials, sheikhs and dignitaries.
Meanwhile, youths, men, women and children in the Wilayat of Sohar participated in a national march under the theme ‘Thanks and Gratitude to You, Qaboos of Oman’, in a bid to express their joy on the occasion.
The citizens carried portraits of His Majesty the Sultan, the national flags and placards that express loyalty and gratitude to the architect of the Omani Renaissance, His Majesty the Sultan.
The march was held under the patronage of HE Habib Bin Mohammed Al Riyami, Secretary-General of Sultan Qaboos Centre for Islamic Culture, and attended by a number of Their Excellencies, officials, sheikhs the deputy wali of Sohar and chairman of the organising committee.
The different Omani arts, which renewed the loyalty to the architect of the Blessed Renaissance, His Majesty the Sultan, were performed during the march.
On their part, Omani women expressed their joy over the care accorded by His Majesty the Sultan. The participating women carried the portraits of His Majesty the Sultan, the national flags and placards that express the role of the Omani women and their gratitude to the leader of the Blessed Renaissance.
