Three weeks into his annual Royal Tour, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, accompanied by a number of ministers and advisers, has covered a number of regions and wilayats, conferring with local citizens and dignitaries and issuing directives for the implementation of road, water, electricity and other service projects in the visiting areas. During his tour of Al Dhahirah and Al Batinah regions and Buraimi and Musandam governorates, His Majesty the Sultan has issued Royal Orders to implement several development and service projects worth 239.248 million rials. The projects in Al Batinah region and Musandam governorate include 702km of roads, 5,900 electric poles with lights, 500 housing units, a hospital in Soham wilayat, health centres in Sohar and Suwaiq, markets, abattoirs and underground electric cables. Among the major road projects are: Wadi Hilta road in the wilayat of Sohar; Wadi Shafan road in the wilayat of Saham; mountainous roads in various parts of the wilayat of Rustaq and a bridge to connect wadi Bani Kharous with the wilayat of Awabi; development of roundabouts in Suwaiq and Al Kabourah.
Projects in Al Dhahirah region and Buraimi governorate include 591km road, 3,506 electric poles; water pipelines to villages in Al Dhahirah region and construction of 306 housing units; doubling of Al Sulaif-Maskan road and construction, widening and paving of a number of link roads. Some other projects to be implemented as part of the Royal Order are extension of water pipelines to the villages in Ibri Heights and other places and supplying of drinking water from Seih Al Masarat to the wilayat of Sininah and construction of water tanks in Hil Al Khanabisha in the wilayat of Yanqul and laying of underground electric cables in several other places. OmanTel will build mobile phone towers in 135 villages in Al Batinah and Al Dhahirah regions and Musandam and Buraimi governorates. Work on 39 towers had been completed so far and the remaining towers would be ready by the end of the Royal Tour.
As part of the meet-the-people annual tour, His Majesty the Sultan will meet today sheikhs and dignitaries of the wilayats of Al Dhahirah region and Al Buraimi governorate, at the Royal Camp Seih Al Masarat in the wilayat of Ibri. This is the second meeting between the ruler and people, after the first meeting held on October 18 at Seih Al Makarim in the wilayat of Sohar when he met sheikhs and dignitaries of the wilayats of Al Batinah region and Musandam governorate. His Majesty the Sultan’s tours indicate his desire to be in touch with his people and interact with them face to face and provide an effective channel of communication between the leadership and the people.The personal contact with the people strengthens the bond between His Majesty the Sultan and his subjects.
