UNPF hailed over data on population, family health
MUSCAT The Gulf informative meeting on the Semi Regional Office for United Nations Population Fund (UNPF), organised by the technical office for the National Committee on Population in collaboration
with the GCC Secretariat-General, began at Crowne Plaza Hotel on Sunday.

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of HE Sheikh Al Fadhl Bin Mohammed Al Harthy, Undersecretary for Development Affairs at the National Economy Ministry, in the presence of Dr Hafidh Shuqiar, director of Semi Regional Office for UNPF, Dr Jihan Tawilah, WHO representative in Muscat, and a number of officials at the Mi­nistry of National Economy.

Sawsan Bint Dawood Al Lawatiyah, supervisor of the  Technical Office for the National Committee for Population, delivered a speech where she said that the UNPF had played a distinguished role not only in the Sultanate but also at the GCC level and contributed to enhancing the national efforts in the field of providing information and data on population and family health.

Hafidh Shuqiar delivered a speech where he stressed the importance of activating the guidelines within the framework of the Arab Joint Action which was approved at the Arab Conference for Population and Development.

The two-day meeting came as part of the implementation of the decision of the GCC Ministerial Committee for Planning and Development on holding a Gulf meeting in Muscat to benefit from the Semi Regional Office for UNPF and discuss the aspects of cooperation between the fund and the GCC countries and activating the role of the semi regional office in all GCC countries.
