TEHERAN The Sultanate and Iran will sign a security agreement, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said after meeting Sultanate’s Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs HE Yousef Bin Alawi Bin Abdullah on Saturday.
“Iran will sign a security agreement with the Sultanate. It will be boost strategic cooperation to establish peace and security in the region, he said.
Earlier, Alawi was received by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
During the meeting, Alawi conveyed His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said’s greetings to the president and best wishes of progress and prosperity to the friendly people of Iran.
On his part, Ahmadinejad requested Alawi to convey his greetings and best wishes of health and happiness to His Majesty and wishes of further progress and development to the Omani people.
The president stressed fostering the relationship among countries of the region. “The ties between the Sultanate and Iran serve the interests of the region, Ahmadinejad said.
He termed the ties as a model to be followed and a source of pride for the two friendly countries.
Alawi congratulated Ahmadinejad for winning a second term. “The Sultanate is keen to develop and expand its relations with Iran in trade and economic sectors,” he said.
Alawi and Mottaki discussed the issues of mutual interest and the latest regional and international developments.
“The Sultanate has strong relations with Iran in all fields,” Alawi told reporters during the joint press conference after their meeting.
Alawi also held talks with Ali Laringani, chairman of the Iranian Shura Council. HE Sheikh Yahya Bin Abdullah Al Uraimi, the Sultanate’s Ambassador to Iran, attended the meeting.
